These officers, who made the ultimate sacrifice
in the performance of their duties to the
citizens of the City of Trenton, shall
always be remembered and held
with honor and esteem by the
Trenton Police Division.

Patrolman Jacob Reupp

In the early morning of June 5, 1875, Patrolman Jacob Reupp along with another officer came upon a drunk and disorderly group and ordered them to disperse. One member of the group refused to comply with the order and when the officer's tried to arrest him, the suspect shot Officer Reupp once in the abdomen. After walking the prisoner to the Police Station, Officer Reupp was sent to his home and attended by physicians. On June 14, 1875, Officer Reupp died from his wound. Officer Reupp was the first Trenton Police Officer to make the supreme sacrifice in the peformance of his duties.

Patrolman George B. Grover

On the morning of August 15, 1917, Patrolman George B. Grover interrupted a Burglary at a delicatessen. On entering the premise, Patrolman Grover was shot once in the back. Seriously wounded, he chased the suspect a short distance and fell to the ground. On the night of the same day, Patrolman Grover died from his injuries.

Patrolman Abner R. Braun

On May 27, 1919, Patrolman Abner R. Braun, while on duty and assigned to Motorcycle Patrol, pursued a stolen auto into Pennsylvania, where he was shot and killed by the suspects. Several hours passed before the fate of Patrolman Braun was learned, this due to the absence of radio communications.

Patrolman John J. Clowar

On November 16, 1964, Patrolman John J. Clowar, responded to the report of an explosive device at a bar on North Clinton Avenue. While investigating the incident a hand grenade exploded. Patrolman Clowar died at the scene from his injuries.

Patrolman James Loiacono

On June 26, 1965, Patrolman James Loiacono, died as the result of injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident at the corner of Brunswick Avenue and Southard Street. Patrolman Loiacono was thrown from the Police Wagon on impact and struck his head on the curb.

Patrolman George L. Ambrosio

On December 8, 1979, Patrolman George L. Ambrosio, was struck and killed by a drunk driver while directing traffic at an earlier accident on the Trenton Freeway. As the result of the impact, Patrolman Ambrosio suffered massive injuries and died instantly.






On Saturday, May 9, 1992, a memorial was dedicated honoring the Trenton Police Officer's who have given their lives during service to the City of Trenton. Located at the front of City Hall, the Trenton Police Memorial bares the names of the six Officers above. It is hoped, that through the grace of God, no other names shall ever be added.
