Over the years the police department has acted as the overseer of various services requiring licensing. Alcohol Beverage Control (ABC) laws are currently enforced by the police department.
During the 1920s the police department was also responsible for regulating Hack (Taxi) Licenses. Below is a list of the men who held hack licenses in the City of Trenton during 1926.
To operate a cab in the city a person needed to be licensed. The ordinances required that a cab driver be issued a Hack License with a photograph inside. The police department also maintained a book of all the licensed cabbies. In this book was recorded the name and address of the driver and a duplicate photo, identical to that on the driver's license, was kept in the book.
